We want you to WAKE UP on World Homelessness Day.
Shelter is predicting 230,000 renters are at risk of ‘Covid-eviction’ and Generation Rent estimates that 17 per cent of renters have fallen into arrears since the beginning of the pandemic. With furlough and the ban of evictions ending – we’re asking YOU to join our team for The Sleep Out 2020. Use #WorldHomelessnessDay to help us raise awareness of homelessness on your social media and raise funds to support those seriously affected by the economic crisis.
You can take part in the sponsored event by sleeping somewhere unusual overnight AND you can help us cause a scene on social media by asking others to WAKE UP on World Homeless Day too.
All you need to do is to find a tricky spot to sleep in your garden or home, and sleep there on Friday 9th October. It could be on top of some cardboard in your back garden? Or in the cupboard under the stairs. Or anywhere unusual or uncomfortable.
By registering with the form below you’ll receive emails on how to get involved, start fundraising and making your voice heard. It’s time for Bristol to WAKE UP.
The bonus of a virtual event is that anyone can take part – individuals, families, workplaces, churches, schools or youth groups*
START: FRIDAY 9TH OCTOBER AT 10PM (OR EARLIER IF YOU WANT TO BED DOWN EARLIER)
FINISH: SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER AT 7AM.
To take part and change someones life – press the button below:
You will receive a registration pack, including details of how to fundraise, sponsorship forms, tips on keeping safe, warm and dry, and how to connect with everybody else who is raising funds and changing people’s lives.
*If government restrictions allow, churches, schools or workplaces may wish to organise their own mini event to raise funds for Caring in Bristol. In this case, we suggest that you restrict attendance to over-18s, or organise your own consent forms for under 18s. We have a Template Risk Assessment that you can use and adapt for your own premises.
