“I know I need to do stuff for housing, benefits and the solicitor but I can’t get myself there and get myself into a position when I can talk to people and I’m finding everything really, really hard at the moment.”
The Common is a new project, that has been set up by Caring in Bristol, working with 16-25 year old young people who need support with sever and multiple difficulties in their lives.
We offer young people city-centre based drop-ins run by an experienced staff team. These are on Mondays (10am to 12.30pm) and Fridays (1pm to 3.30pm). They take place at St Mungo New Street Centre, 1 New Street, Bristol, BS2 9DX.
Our drop-in has sofas, a table tennis table, and a garden area. This enables us to have a comfortable safe space to offer young people a warm welcome, a meal, things to do such as music/art activities, and support from experienced youth workers.
The Common also offers one to one relationship based youth advisory support work. We can assist young people with practical help, such as accessing benefit entitlements, but also offer emotional support from a trusted adult. Our criteria for working with young people aged 16-25 is intentionally very broad. We hope young people see us as an open door for support and a warm welcome.

“I don’t like getting into the more intense stuff straight away, I’d rather wait until I feel more comfortable to open up, because not everyone is comfortable to open up right away.”
